Bob, welcome to the UL forums, we are glad to have you here.
Yep Long Island has brookies, and the Carmens is historical brookie water to say the least. Long Island is kind of forgotten as far as brookies go but, they are there. It once was one heck of a brook char fishery. The book Brook Trout, by Nick Karas covers the history, and biology, as well as brook char fishing opportunity. This book is a must for those folks who like brookies. It does cover the history of brook trout fishing on Long Island in good detail. J. |

Thanks gents, I am glad to post here. Yes L.I. has a few good trout streams there is the Carman's (County Park), Nissequoge (County Park) and the
Connetquot (State Park ) The Long Island Brook trout are said to be the original breeding stock for all of the USA. How true this is? , to me I have heard it
said in reverence and in my lifetime I have grown to accept it as Gospel. While that is not a big brookie to me, truly most are small and a very pretty fish, I
have caught some Lake Brookies that run into the 15+ lb. classes---these are horses that fight like a Percheron.

Hey Bob, Nice to see another NY'er on here!
That is a great looking brookie ya got there, and it is good to hear that they have some fight to em! Haven't made it out to the Carmen yet, but it is on my short list, after the trip out to Ken Lockwood Gorge this weekend to try to get some bends in my 3 wt.! |

Well Mr. Lajoie you ought to make a try to get out there---it's tough fishing and you have to go upriver and work your way down. You have to pay a County
fishing permit---very cheap ~$3 for the day (unless the rate has gone up recently). An UL wouldn't be out of place here as you rarely get fish too large to
handle. I recommend nymphing with an indicator, with the ability to switch to a Dry when the hatches do occur. My tippets are looped so I can switch to a dry
by unlooping the nymph rig and loop on the already tied dry fly in a minute or so. I usually fish from around 4:00PM until dark as the best hours on the
stream. The Brookies are easier to catch on the Connetquot River.
