Dude that is one nice bass. I caught the biggest crappies ever out of my creek today. It's amazing how a mini clouser makes the big ones come out of
nowhere.

Thanks J. I caught several others a bit smaller and finally broke one off that was probably around the size of this one. I got lazy and didn't redo my knot
after catching half a dozen bass and it finally broke right at the fly. The fly was some marabou and yellow chenille on a size 16 jighead (no hackle). I just
threw it together before I left and only tied one.
These bass were hitting and then heading out to the middle of the lake. I put several of them on the reel--something I almost never do, just because they took the line out so fast, and it was fun to listen to them make several short runs--the CFO is a cool sounding reel. They never took more than 20' but that's more than I usually get from bass. I don't think there was much cover for them to dive into so they just head for deeper water. Some of them put a very nice bend in this 3 wt. Very cool about the crappies. It's nice to have the season picking up huh? |

I think I read somewhere that a major part of a bass diet is small insects...You just proved that...Nice fish...You had a great day...Rob

Jerry, the crappies have been in full swing for a few weeks now. The weather seems to have finally broke here as well. It hit 80 today! It's about time
spring/summer hit this armpit of a state. I'm trying to convince my wife that we need to move to Texas. I've had it with the cold weather up here.

Thanks Rob and David.
David, I was fortunate that there weren't any weeds or rocks for him to dive into because I don't think I could have turned him without breaking him off. As it was it took me 3 or 4 minutes to land him and I was keeping quite a bit of pressure on him the whole time. It's always fun to see a good-sized bend in a fast rod. I was also a little nervous because these hooks are very light wire. They bend really easy. He's not a huge fish by any means but he's pretty decent considering the tackle. J, you'd better move down here quick--before it gets in the 100's and stays there. It hit 90 a couple of days ago so it won't be long. |

Jerry,
Thanks for sharing some great pics & discrediting another myth. I have caught bass over 3 lbs & channel cats up to 23" while fishing my 3wt with 6x tippet & size 12-14 woolly worms & woolly buggers. They certainly WILL take small flies as many of us know. Mikey |
