Posts: 96 05/30/09 5:53 PM	Tags : None It was a good day! We arrived to find near perfect conditions, with the exception of a clear sky and post front weather. It was beautiful, but a little cloud cover would have helped in the ultra clear water of Ohio's Little Darby. There were a few ghostly spinners on the water... And the river looked beautiful. The Little Darby is one of five "Outstanding Warm Water Habitat" streams in the state. It's very healthy! Mark, Jim, Elisa, me and Jeremy fished the day away... We caught a few of these... The bug life in the riffles is rich. Here is a mayfly nymph and a water penny, an aquatic beetle larva that only can live in extremely clean water... We fished hard for smallmouth. Jeremy tried some serious high-sticking with a crayfish imitation. But the smallmouth were spooky and tough. A couple came to hand... Including one nice fish that bent the 2-wt TFO Finnesse to the cork... A really nice chunk... We couldn't have asked for better! Joe C. Posts: 2511 05/30/09 10:07 PM Forum Owner / Administrator	Phillip, you would have been in hog heaven. Sorry you couldn't make it. The drive down was rather boring without any company. We all started at the confluence of Big Darby, and Little Darby creeks. Joe and I decided we wanted to hit the smaller water, so up Little Darby we went. Like Joe said, this stream is very healthy. The mayflies were out, and I even had a stonefly land on my hand. It took off before I could dig the camera out of the vest. Joe knows how to catch smallmouth, and he showed me how it was done. I managed to catch two small bass, and a couple creek chubs for the day. I found that today, I was very adept at spooking the bass. Here's the pics from the morning, before we broke for lunch. Joe with a bent rod. Joe with smallie in the net. Joe with a smallie in hand. Joe with another smallie. This was the only pic I took of the fish I caught today. The second bass was this ones twin, so no need to snap another photo. When we broke for lunch, Elisa had to leave us. Sorry I didn't get to fish with you today Elisa. Next outing for sure. After lunch, Jim and Joe headed for home. I was anxious to fish some more so Mark and I hit the Little Darby again. This time we went further upstream than Joe and I had. Joe, the water was looking much better just a short walk from where we had stopped. Mark got into some fish up that way. Mark with a nice smallmouth. Mark with another smallie. Posts: 43 05/30/09 11:18 PM	Here's some more Clave pics. As Elisa was the only other person around when I decided to start shooting, she got the most attention. Rocky #1 on the St. Croix, Legend Ultra 2wt. A very nice caster. Tough conditions but a way cool piece of water. Reminds me of the MI Ausable (gin clear and ultra spooky fish) on the 'Little' side and more local water on the 'Big' side (more and deeper slack water). Rocky #2 Pretty atmospheric of Elisa on the Big Darby side Elisa layin' down the 2wt smack. I like the stop sign suspended in midair above her. Little Darby. Stunning.
