had a good day today with a few small bass on the 4 wt, but nothing big to speak of until about an hour ago. We were wading the sand flats of Lake Jackson in
Sebring FLA when I hook and landed this 'fella:Me Being a sissy with the angry snapping shortnose gar:
 me being a man about it put up a hell of a fight on my four weight.

I saw a gar in the Little Darby. He wouldn't take a fly though. I've never caught one before so I may have to make a real attempt at some point.

What did you catch him on? I see gar frequently but have never been able to get one to take anything I've offered. Cool pics, BTW!

I caught him on a closer minnow size 12 but instead of bucktail, I used craft fur. I would have thought it would have gotten tangled in the craft fur, but that
little size 12 hook got caught under its tongue.

This may seem odd but tie a piece of yellow anchor line, the plastic like stuff...put a knot in it for a head...and fray the back end of the string....they
like yellow and if you jerk it past them a few times...a lot of them bite....their teeth get hung up in the line and that is how I have caught them in the Ohio
River...they will just not let go...tap them between the eyes fairly hard and they will open their mouths and drop back in...no kidding....Robb

I had a little pond buster boat; the kind you use with a trolling motor; caught a big ole gar and made the mistake of putting him in the boat to retrieve my
fly; bad mistake; what he didn't tear up he slimed; dont like gar; never want to catch another one.

very cool. that is a styling hat. you just a fan or do you have connections to the area? i've been a life long royals fan (as well as a lifelong area
resident). start of the year had great promise, but a little grim lately. greinke sure has been a bright spot. sorry for the hijack. great fish pics.

I love baseball, but it also helps about a dozen and a half years ago, my uncle whos house I was staying at lpayed triple A ball for them before he had tommy
john surgery twice and was the same after that. so he gets free schwag from them all the time. so he knew I collect fitted hats and got me two, the pale blue
and this one. I love 'em. and hey look at it this way, you will finish ahead of cleveland this year.And to be honest I love what they did with Greinke a
few years ago, moving him to the bullpen to let him figure himself out. Meche appear to be a waste of money, but what do I know, I personally have never liked
the guy and thought he was a waste of money, even in seattle. Baseball is by far my favorite sport, seeing as I grew up in Phoenix and got to see spring
baseball each year, and then the Diamondbacks winning a world series while I lived there basically put me is baseball for life.

Cool report! I have never caught that species of fish before (up here I am mostly limited to trout, salmon, steelhead, SMB, LMB and bluegill). How do they
fight on a fly rod?

he fought really good, I never did get him to the reel though, because I felt that it was unnecessary. Although the bigger ones(30+ inches) I saw wallowing in
the shallows would have taken you into your backing. The coolest part was as I was pulling him in, he kept snapping, and chasing the minnows in the shallows AS
I HAD HIM HOOKED. I am going to try and catch these fish more often.
