Howdy from a new guy |

I am very happy to have found this forum. I grew up fishing on the Fraser River in Winter Park, Colorado in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I went
off to the Navy in 1977 and am just getting back into small stream fishing. For anyone who is familiar with the Fraser, it has sure changed in 40 years. I have
tried a fly fishing with 4, 5 & 6 wt but it just irritates me. Now I know it is because it is like fishing with a club. It may be fine for the Colorado or
Arkansas Rivers, but the slow and narrow streams with the little brookies need the finesse of UL gear. I hope to learn lots from this forum. I am currently
considering a TFO 1wt - trying to get the local shop to make a sweet deal on rod, reel and line. My go-to fly is an RS2 on a 20. That is what I tie a lot, so I
have gotten pretty good at it. Doug in Colorado

I looked up the RS2 nymph and found this quote from it's creator.
"In nymph fishing light tackle has a distinct advantage. The nymph rod should not be any heavier than three weight. (The SAGE 389LL rod is a good choice.) The rod should be equipped with a lighter line than normally called for. (As an example, Rim uses .027" Cortland 444SL running line.) The tapered leader system should be formulated to complement the rod and the fly line". Under Rim's tutelage a number of his friends and acquaintances switched to light tackle. We never had a reason to switch back. This sounds like this guy is fighting the good fight in Colorado. |

Welcome Doug! Sounds like you have some great waters and UL fly fishing opportunities. When you get a chance, please post up some photos either under the Cold
Water fishing forum or Photos- we'd be interested in seeing your home waters.
