Nice fish Bill. Are they usually smaller than that?

They can be, we have them at various stages of maturity. this is not the biggest we have but this fish is legal to keep, if it were not taken in NYC.

They are usually pretty small in my creek, but this year they were much bigger than normal. I was kind of shocked.

I've noticed that this spring the BGs & shinners tend to be thicker and appear to be at least five years old. maybe pro athletes are dumping their
steroids in their local fisheries; or i need glasses!

The reel is the popular(in Europe )
franco vivarelli. it is a semi automatic fly reel, not to be confused with the older heavier automatic fly reels. The reel i use is made from carbon fiber and has a life time warranty. in the picture are 3 examples of the semi automatic fly reels available to the American market. the reel at the top is the gold star(franco vivarelli) it can hold up to 9 wt fly line. the silver reel is the ATP37( not made by franco vivarelli ) the reel on the bottom is designed for trout and pan fish. all reels have adjustable drags and interchangeable spools. The black carbon fiber is great for UL fly fishing Bill http://www.sexyloops.com/tackle/vivarelli.shtml

i had to lip this one!. my 2 wt couldn't lift this crappie. one of the few times it stopped raining here in NYC and I used a #1o BH white woolie bugger
to do it.

It is my rod of the moment. I just purchased it this year after lusting after it for about two years. it is the 9', 7 piece, 2 wt, made by the March
Brown company. it comes with a life time warranty.
