Posts: 35 06/26/09 6:27 AM	Tags : None Orvis Trident TL 8' 1wt. Orvis TLS PM 8'4" 3wt. Threw caution (and the weather report; thunderstorms) to the wind and took the jon boat and Orvis 3wt. to my go-to lake Thursday. And, yes that is my toe! Caught 2 of these.... and, 17 of these... plus, 1 little LMB, 2 golden shiners.....so, what's not to like about ultralite???? Jim Last Edited By: jsentell 06/29/09 6:28 AM. Edited 1 time.

Posts: 35 06/27/09 5:51 AM	jdub: I'd have no idea on a comparison. I know it's strong at a FlexIndex of 8.0. The fellow I bought it from sent the line he was using, a DT1F and I didn't like it, wouldn't get any distance. I purchased the new Orvis Trout Bum line in WF2F and I can get out 60-70' with a little double haul and mild wind. Actually, it casts best with SA XST WF4F (said to be actual line weight) but, I use that on the 3wt. (also a FI of 8.0) which actually casts better with Wulff TT5F!!!!! Go figure. Sorry, it's the only UL I possess and no one in my neck of the woods (southern NJ) uses anything under a 6 wt. (on that rare occasion you see another fly angler) let alone ultralight. Les: I'm thinking of a 2 wt. just to fill-in the gap. I was thinking of the Cabela's LST 762-2 if I can't find an Orvis. Jim

Posts: 1959 06/27/09 7:51 AM Administrator / Moderator	Jim, I like the modern or recent Superfine offerings of Orvis in the 2wt -it's short 6 foot rod and has think a 3.0 flex rate. Also I checked out the Cabela's PT plus 6''6" 2wt made by St Croix, and it's a very nice slow action stick. Jeremy speaks highly of these st Croix made UL rods regardless of who they're branded for. Posts: 105 06/29/09 1:00 AM	I got a Orvis Trident 8'4" 2weight and got to fish with it the first time today. I got it used in great shape. It is possible the best rod I have ever got. I'm using a Hook and Hackle WF2 weight on it. I caught a couple of 11in trout and 6 around 6 to 8in.What fun and so ez to cast. I used flies from 14 to 10 sized hooks. I can't say enought on how much I like this rod.

Now, it is said that the larger ones are basically loners; if you catch one, forget getting several, while the smaller ones are schoolers, hit one and you can get several more. Actually, I've found that to be a true assessment over the years. jdub: what model is that Elkhorn 8' 2wt.? I was also considering the TFO 8' 2 wt. 3pc. Jim

Posts: 105 07/01/09 12:00 AM	I have the 3weight Elkhorn. It is a 9' rod and I love it. It is a med, med/fast action rod. It is a blast to fish with. It is good if you are using flys that are size 10 hook and bigger.
