My 7' Riffle 'glass 3/4 blank arrived today. I wasn't home at the time so my daughter set the package inside for me. I was a little distressed
when I came home and found the triangular shaped box bent at an angle and torn through 2 of the 3 sides about halfway down the box. I took some pics in
preparation for an insurance claim and then opened the box to find that the blank had somehow survived without a mark! Must be because it's fiberglass
huh? |

That's a close call. Knock on wood, I've not had any blank show up damaged. It's kind of surprising how some blanks are shipped in just a cardboard
box. I bought a blank for hook & Hackle ( the Matrix 2wt) and they had the blank in a piece of plastic pipe, and that inside the cardboard box. I used the
pipe for the rod tube.

This rod was sent in a triangular cardboard box.. and somehow it was bend and torn just like your photo.. Kept my finger cross when I open it... but, darn the rod was broken... |

I had the same problem with a couple of blanks that I got from Phil. Scared the hell out of me. Luckily, the blanks weren't damaged. So.......now when I order blanks from Phil, I ask him to ship them in a PVC tube, which he doesn't have a problem with.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely!

jdub, It wasn't the fiberglass, it was luck! Fiberglass can break too. It's a sickening feeling when you find a crushed package sitting outside the
front door. Barry's right, a PVC tube is the best bet. I've never received a broken rod that was packed in PVC.
The picture shows a rod I received a few months back. The seller wrapped that slip of cardboard around a cardboard tube and expected it to make it through
UPS. PayPal had to intercede in my behalf.
I once received a rod/reel combo where the seller left the reel on the rod and taped a small box around the reel. The rod's tip section was rubber
banded to the butt. No additional boxes or packaging. Somehow the rod arrived undamaged.

Dang Tom! Between you and Fango I see how lucky I really was. I'm glad to hear PayPal took care of you. I bought a TXL and Hardy reel on eBay a few months
ago and they were stolen while in the UPS shipping chain. PayPal took care of me too--I normally don't care for PayPal... at all, but it sure was nice to
get that money back from a stalling seller.

I have had good luck but many close calls with ups. My steffen was delivered to an abandoned house that did not even match the misprinted address. Also many
packages have shown up damaged. I know there are stories out there about the usps also but I have had great luck with usps priority mail and now send
everything with it. If you add delivery conformation or a signature it seems to be even better taken care of.

I repair and fish those broken rods. The repair has minimal effect on the rod's action. I know it makes the rod worthless for the collector or for the guys
that are real particular but i have several nice rods that i am fishing that were broken. CONTACT ME if its broken; send me a pm and we'll work out a
deal!!!! I'll fix it, buy it, or trade for it!!!! The butt section breaks are repairable with no effect other than cosmetic; the tip breaks effect action
the closer the break is to the tip but the flat spot where the repair was made can be minimized with flexible repair pieces(I always add delivery confirmation;
I think it works for reasons stated russell)-p-
