For some reason it bothers me to pay more for a grip than I do for a bargain blank. (I guess the reason it bothers me is because I'm cheap.)
Any leads would be appreciated, thanks!.

Anyone know of a source of cheap cork skeleton reel seats (as well as preformed grips)?

Paul, I'm kind of the same way. I have a hard time putting top quality components on a cheap blank. I hate cheap junk cork though so I usually end up
buying decent preformed grips.
Jann's has a cork grip with cork seat and slide bands for $11.00 and the quality isn't all that bad really. Not my first choice, but usable especially for the price. My standards for cork are pretty high though, and what some folks would consider good, I would pass up as junk. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/fly-rod-handle-kits/025073400007.aspx J.

Thanks for the link. Cheap cork doesn't bother me, nothing a bit of fish slime won't mellow out.

dorber also has the all corkgrip/reelseat with rings; little cheaper than Janns for small lite rods.

Thanks!
I was under the impression that dorber only sold the cork grip and reel seat if you bought a blank. I have bought them in the past with my dorber blanks.

I am unable to find the dorber set. any help would be a big help.
I really dont want to turn/shape my own but have a feeling I might have to, to get what I want. open to any other options you know of out there for a really light cork and ring set.

go to www.dorber.com; click on contact us; get the toll free number and tell Jeff what you want and how many; he'll give u a price; its hard to catch him
there as he doesn't work all the time; Fridays there'l probably not be an answer; you can email him and he'l get back that way; theyre pretty lax
on office hours. The dorber set is smaller than the netcraft one, and they only have gold rings right now; theyre trying to find a supplier for the silver
rings. The holes on the grip are larger than 1/4 inch so on UL graphite blanks you have to use maskin tape or knitting yarn to build up the blank in order to
glue it.

Regarding building up the void. In the past, I've always used masking tape. I can't say I ever had a problem, but I've always been a bit
concerned about it's long term durability. I have had some old rolls of masking tape sitting around, and they got very crumbly and brittle. I hoped that
wasn't taking place inside my rods as well.
I saw an idea and tried it on my last rod, using fiberglass reinforced dry wall tape. It was a little finicky to apply, but once I got it down, it seemed to be nice and solid. I'm hoping it will be pretty much impervious to the ravages of time.

I have repaired/rebuilt many old glass rods from the 50's and 60's that had maskin tape holding the reelseat on with epoxy. When it fails its because
the epoxy doesn't go to the blank and there's too little of it. Some were put on kinda shoddily. Most were very difficult to get off the rod blank. I
wouldn't be afraid of the maskin tape if gaps are made to allow the epoxy to get all the way to the rod blank. If the maskin tape has held for 50-60 years
I think its plenty durable. Many of the old reelseats had to be cut off with a dremel.
