Just read that G. Loomis plans to stop selling blanks for custom builders by the end of this year.

Paul, I heard that last year. Heck the only UL blanks they had were the GL3 6'6" 3wt, and the IMX 7'6" 3wt. They only had fly blanks from the
"classic" series of rods, nothing from the main lineup in the catalog. They screwed themselves by not offering enough choices, and not offering
current designs. It's a shame really.

Loomis has never impressed me. When I was UL spin fishing I came close to purchasing one of their UL rods ($185.00) I found no difference between the Loomis
and my $20.00 Shakespeare. They were both IM6 blanks, weighed about the same and had almost the same components. I have looked at a few of there fly rods and
wasn't impressed. Same thing they have $200-$300 fly rods selling for $500+. Loomis has made a name with the "basscar" fisherman, and they think
the can sell all there mediocre rods at a premium. You can't get a Loomis blank? use something else. It will probably be cheaper and better. I got to
talking to a "Pro" a few years back and he told me all he had to do is call Loomis and he could have any rod he wanted but when the cameras were off
and he was fishing for fun he didn't even bring a single Loomis with him.

I have a Loomis GL3 9' 4wt. It's a factory built rod. Rather plain for the price I paid as are many of the Loomis offerings. Are any of them really
worth the asking price? Nope.

Loomis made great rods when they first started and White was in charge. When he left, thing started to change and their products haven't been the same.
I'm personal not impressed with their rods.

Bait-casting guys will fight you over bad-mouthing a loomis rod. I've never been that impressed.

Loomis went to hell after Shimano bought them anyway. They also need a new fly rod designer.
