I find that my rods all like very supple lines the best.I've noticed the same thing J. A slightly stiffer line seems perfect on a fast rod but isn't quite the thing on a slower rod. I thought it might just be my casting style--interesting to hear the same from you. I think if Cortland just made a peach 444 in all the UL line weights all of our problems would be solved...

I have a WF peach that I used to use on my Loomis. It cast okay but not all that well. The Loomis casts much better with a SA Mastery Trout line which
isn't quite as supple as the peach.

J, the Clear Creek is VERY supple and is available in a WF1-WF6. That line will love a full-mid flex rod!

By biggest "frugal" find has to be the discovery of SWEET fly bags at wal-mart. Seems the ladies purse department (insert eye rolling and laughing
here) often gets in some really nice bags that are near perfectly sized for our needs. My favorite, pictured here is 9.5"x5.5"x3" and made of
heavy Cordura. One internal main compartment holds a saltwater sized/large fly box perfectly. There are also 5 other zippered pockets with plenty of room for
leaders, tippet dispensers, floatant, bug juice (even a candy bar). It lso has a buckled sunglass pocket , a licence holder and a (pencil) slot to hold your
hemo's . I added a piece of lambs wool fly patch ( thanks to a surplus ice scraping mitt) to the front and have to say I wouldn't change a thing. I
have 4 of these ( in different colors) and just leave them rigged for specific species.
Oh yea, it doesn't say orvis on it but it cost a whopping $6.88

Andy the lanyard I have has Aquarium air tubing instead of foam for the collar. It's comfortable and it's gonna be way more durable than foam.

I make small fly boxes from the Plastic soap boxes you can get for about 50 cents at Wal-mart. A little foam ...a little glue.....holds a full days worth of
Sand Bass flies and fits in a shirt pocket.

Here is my super cheap rod storage system....
I have been struggling with coming up with a rod storage system that is economical, efficient, yet space saving, & I thought one up that works very well
for me & may for someone else too, so I thought I would share it.
I have a bookcase that I use, although this would work on a wall, closet wall, etc. I spent about 5 bucks on adhesive backed velcro. I simply put a strip (the loop, or soft, side) of velcro from front to back of my bookcase, then stood my rod cases up & attached a "ring" of the "hook" side of the velcro to my rod tubes at the appropriate height. When I want a rod, I simply pull it off the wall & to put it back, i just stand it & the velcro holds it snugly against the wall. No more rod tubes leaning in a corner for me. Here are a few pics...
