I want to say that there is a standard foot size that has now been adopted. Feet for UL reels is tricky because there is a tendency for the makers to want to downsize the feet in proportion to the rest of the reel. This invariably creates short or thin feet for normal hardware. Generally, custom rods tend to reduce the size of the seat hardware, whereas factory models do not. My pet peeve is steeply slanted feet. These are the hardest to fit to sliding bands. However, no slant, like on Ocean Cities, mean that the reel either fits or it won't go on at all. If I were to design on ultralite reel, I would stay with a normal foot with a very gradually taper and retain the ability to change out the foot with a 4 screw attachment to the reel itself. Bob Dennison sells a complete reel seat with some of his mini-reels because he knows they will not fit anything else.
